Madmans Middle Way - Genden Chopel

Anyen Rinpoche will introduce Madhyamaka philosophy using Gandun Chopels text Adornment for Nagarjunas Thought. It sparked controversy immediately upon its publication and continues to do so today. Gendun Chopel, a scholar of the Gelugpa tradition as well as a realized Nyingmapa yogi, was a true practitioner of the RIME (non-sectarian) movement. Gendun Chopel is considered the most important Tibetan intellectuals of the twentieth century.

Madhymamika (the Sanskrit word for Middle Way philosophy) is the philosophical basis for the uncontrived view of Dzogchen and Mahamudra. Because the view is philosophically established by the middle way, it is completely free of all extremes and limitations. Understanding the Middle Way greatly enhances a practitioner's ability to experience and abide in perfectly pure, uncontrived view. Rinpoche will teach once a month for 2 semesters, Sept-Dec in 2007 and Feb-May in 2008. The program is open to everyone and will be available for people to participate remotely via an internet program.

Anyen Rinpoche Bio
Anyen Rinpoche is an esteemed scholar and fifth in an unbroken lineage of heart sons who received their uncommon lineage of the Longchen Nyingthig and introduction to the Dzogchen teachings directly from the renowned Dzogchen master Patrul Rinpoche. Now living outside of Tibet, Anyen Rinpoche continues the tradition of passing on the wisdom of his lineage of Dzogchen and Bodhichitta.

Gendun Chopel is considered the most important Tibetan intellectual of the twentieth century. His life spanned the two defining moments in modern Tibetan history: the entry into Lhasa by British troops in 1904 and by Chinese troops in 1951. Recognized as an incarnate lama while he was a child, Gendun Chopel excelled in the traditional monastic curriculum and went on to become expert in fields as diverse as philosophy, history, linguistics, geography, and tantric Buddhism. Near the end of his life, before he was persecuted and imprisoned by the government of the young Dalai Lama, he would dictate the Adornment for Nagarjuna's Thought, a work on Madhyamaka, or Middle Way, philosophy. It sparked controversy immediately upon its publication and continues to do so today.

Gendun Chopel, a scholar of the Gelugpa tradition as well as a realized
Nyingmapa yogi, was a true practitioner of the RIME (non-sectarian)
movement.  He was also a brilliant linguist and political scientist who
traveled throughout Europe in the early part of the 20th century--making
him one of the truly modern minds of Tibet.
